What is Bone Grafting?
When you lose a tooth and a gap is left for a prolonged period of time, the bone underneath that tooth starts to gradually wear away. In order to stay strong and healthy, your jawbones need teeth to hold onto. When the bone resorbs, your bone level decreases, and the gums in that area of your mouth start to recede more. If you need dental implants but your bone has already started to wear away beneath the gum, you may need a bone grafting procedure. Bone grafting procedures can rebuild bone and restore your tooth socket before an implant is placed.
Some of the benefits of this procedure include:
- A stronger, healthier jawbone
- A better foundation of support for your implant or denture
- Restored tooth socket
- Rebuilt, strengthened bone.
