The Sunshine State is home to more than 7,300 dentists; however, only a select few are qualified and licensed to administer intravenous (IV) sedation. Cosmetic dentist Dr. Yolanda Cintron of The International Center for Dental Excellence is among this distinctive group. And, true to our name, individuals travel from around the globe to Fort Lauderdale, Florida, to benefit from Dr. Cintron’s unique and advanced level of expertise in a range of dentistry disciplines, including relaxing sedation.
Thanks to scientific advances, modern dental treatments, including complex oral surgery, are far more comfortable than in past decades. Many dental offices may be equipped to offer nitrous oxide, better known as “laughing gas.” While this approach can be a relaxing complement to treatment for the right patient, it is considered to be a “minimal form” of sedation. It may not be well-suited to patients with more intensive dental anxiety or fear. Likewise, laughing gas may not be suitable for complex or lengthy surgical or multi-faceted procedures.
Some dentists also offer oral sedation to ease patients’ apprehension. Here again, a relaxing sedative taken by mouth in pill form may not be sufficient for individuals with moderate to intense dental fear or phobia. For these patients and those with other, more severe challenges to their good oral health, the best approach may be for them to sleep throughout their procedure. Dr. Cintron has the training and onsite capabilities to induce this deep state of relaxation or sedation. A calming medication is applied intravenously. If a numbing anesthetic is needed, Dr. Cintron administers it after the sedative has taken effect, and it does so quickly.
Treatment can be completed quickly when both body and mind are at rest and calm. So, this option may also be appropriate for individuals who tend to fidget a lot or whose nervousness could present a safety challenge. Dr. Cintron can combine more treatments and complete the treatment plan more efficiently using IV sedation. Afterward, patients will have no recollection of treatment that might otherwise trigger their fear.
Our priority is your comfort, safety, and experience.
