A holistic, cosmetic dentist makes sure that the materials used in the dental procedures they perform are biocompatible with a patient’s unique biochemistry. By doing this, dentists can help their patients avoid unnecessary adverse reactions. In addition, when dentists perform biocompatibility testing before dental treatment, they can select the materials that pose a minimal amount of stress on their patient’s immune system. Further, this will help form the body’s optimal integration with dental materials for the entire lifetime of restorations performed.
Three biocompatibility tests are commonly performed in holistic dentistry, also known as biological dentistry.
The CMRT is a blood test that your dentist sends through a laboratory screening process. This test helps identify any sensitivity problems you already have to various chemical groups. If you know that you’re sensitive to chemicals, your dentist will perform this test.
This Dental Materials Screening Panel will provide a list of dental materials that are commonly used. The test also evaluates whether patients have sensitivities to more than 2,000 individual materials widely used in dental procedures. These chemicals comprise 94 families of dental products and chemical groups from over 16,003 products that are trade-named.
With the CMRT, your dentist will determine the dental materials they can safely use in your procedures based on your biochemistry.
The MELISA test is also known as a blood test that uses “delayed hypersensitivity.” Dentists use this test to determine whether metal bridges, crowns, titanium dental implants, or amalgam fillings create allergic reactions within a patient’s body.
The process by which MELISA works is by isolating lymphocytes, also known as white blood cells, from whole blood. Then, the lab tests these lymphocytes against allergens, depending on the situation of the patient. These evaluations work for dental and occupational history, as well as existing dental restorations.
For five days, the patient’s blood is incubated. The reaction of the lymphocyte is then measured using two different technologies.
Doctors Data is a test that uses hair to determine to what degree mercury disruption is caused in patients exhibiting mercury toxicity symptoms. The patient’s medical history will also be considered, particularly if they have experienced mercury exposure caused by amalgams or high mercury levels in their body.
For example, macronutrients like magnesium, calcium, potassium, zinc, sodium, and other trace minerals can affect the body’s proper functioning. Multiple other elements are toxic for humans and can interfere with the human body’s functioning. These include the following:
